Handy is a Smartphone Rental Company.

Handy is a Hong Kong based company that brings the world of Smartphones and renting together.  The idea behind this is renting smartphones by the day for international travelers.  Handy plans include 3G data and international calling.

Handy comes in handy for people who need there phone at all times, but don’t want to pay those out of the country fees. In Hong Kong Handy is about $9 a day, and $15 a day in Singapore. The way this works is very simple and quite genius.  The customers pay with a credit card. The card payment is placed on hold till the phone is returned. If the phone is lost or broken the damages will be covered by the credit card on file for that phone.

Handy has set up service counters in very active, “Hot,” tourist spots. Places like the airports and visitor centers have these service stations so that tourists will be available for the phones. Singapore was not supposed to be opened to the next quarter, but since they got an offer to set up a service spot, they took it.

The phones are primarily Samsung Galaxy Notes, which run the Android software. The phones have a specific UI that opens on the landing page and offers them tourist attractions and recommendations.  The UI also allows the user to download apps from Google Play app store and tethering as well.

With 42 million travelers last year alone this looks to be a promising market for the young company. There are about 2,000 phones in operation now, but look to grow that number. Handy wants to make deals with Android to buy more phones at a bulk price.  This will increase Android stock and Handy’s stock as well.
