FreedomPop: Free Mobile Service

Sick of paying outrageous smartphone bills every month?  Well that might come to an end soon thanks to FreedomPop’s new mobile service. FreedomPop just announced plans for the first-ever completely free mobile service.

FreedomPop is working on a mobile service plan where consumers buy a smartphone at fixed costs and the service comes completely free with the device.  The devices will consist of 2nd generation smartphones such as the HTC Evo for $99 or a higher end device such as the Samsung Galaxy 3S for $199, with all phones running Android 4.0 or better.

FreedomPop has additional plans provided for consumers such as unlimited calling  for $9.99 and 2GB of data for $17.99 a month.  FreedomPop’s business design proposes that most consumers will purchase the additional plans, which are still cut rates compared to the “big four” providers.

FreedomPop uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), which allows users to make phone calls over the Internet and with the quality being where it is, FreedomPop can provide the major mobile service for free.  FreedomPop will offer both 3G and 4G LTE over Sprints network.  The 3G services will be abolished once Sprints nationwide 4G LTE project is complete.

FreedomPop has experimented with free service in the past with their Freedom Spot Photon and Freedom Spot Overdrive hotspots, and the Freedom Sleeve Rocket case for iPod touch.
