iHeartThisApp MyMathBook App Review

Details

MyMathBook is a colorful app that teaches young children the numbers 1 to 100, addition, subtraction and basic shapes.  There are three main learning sections, numbers, computation and shapes. Also, there is a test section.  A narrator gives instructions for all the activities and announces the math equations.

Numbers – kids learn to relate numerals to its quantity up to 100.  Counting from 1 to 10 items, tracing zero to nine and fill-in missing numbers in a number sequence.  There is feedback for how well the child traces a number.

Computation – addition of numbers from 1 to 10 expressed with a numeral equation and using apples in an equation.  To teach subtraction the app uses penguins jumping off an iceberg to visually express subtraction.

Shapes – teaches 6 basic shapes, circle, square, triangle, rectangle, star and diamond.  Ordinary objects are shown as examples of the different shapes.  For example, a pizza pie is given for a circle.   Kids learn to trace, color and identify the different shapes.

Test – testing for addition, subtraction, fill-in the missing numbers and identifying shapes.

What I liked About It

The graphics are very colorful and fun.  The narration for all the activities is very helpful for beginning readers and lets them be more independent when working with the app.  I liked the tracing activity, for both numbers and shapes, because of the feedback and the tracing demo.

The kids really liked the cute graphics. They especially liked the subtraction section where the penguins jumped off when they were subtracted.
