Is Google Fiber a Cereal?

Another company is on its way rip your yard into shreds. Google has developed a new fiber optic system that will make browsing the internet a thing of the past. Now you can race through the internet because Google has improved 100% on Verizon Fios fiber optics making theirs the fastest internet anyone ever seen.

For those of us who use the internet constantly, download movies, and stream live TV, internet speed has always been an issue. Well Google has made some major improvements. There new fiber optics will increase the old 300mb/second by Verizon Fios to 1000mb/second. That is over a 100% increase in speed. It will allow you to download movies in just a couple minutes, which is awesome. It will also make streaming movies and using the internet faster and smoother with less hick-ups.

Google has decided to limit their fiber optics to only certain communities. There will be set of requirements for you your neighborhood to get Google Fiber. They are calling it “FiberHoods,” which are cities/neighborhoods/towns that all want Google Fiber. It will only be installed if the FiberHood meets a certain density of people who want Google Fiber in that surrounding area.  Depending on how many people want this, depends on who gets it and who doesn’t.  It sounds like a good idea until you get the pesky door to door salesman.

Google Fiber requires you to set up a plan before Google Fiber is installed. There are multiple plans to choose from. There is one for free internet, but it comes with a 300 construction fee, so it’s not really free. There is a Gigabit internet service, in which you get up to a Gigabit of uploads and Downloads   for $70/month with the 300 construction fee waived. Then there is the complete package of internet & TV and this package has it all. You get hundreds of channel in HD, YouTube and Netflix pre-loaded onto the box so you can stream instantly. You also will get up to a Gigabit of Uploads and Downloads, a Nexus 7 Tablet, no data caps, and it’s all just for $120/month with a 2 year contract. It sounds pretty sweet right?

Unfortunately Google Fiber is only being offered in Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO for the time being, so unless you are living here or will be before September 9th, I am sorry for wasting your time.  Maybe one day Google Fiber will be in your FiberHood.
