Android’s New Treat

yumI’m sure everyone is curious about Android’s new Jelly Bean 4.1 OS.  The release date for the new OS is expected to be during the middle of this month, July 2012, for only a select few devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Motorola Xoom tablet.  For users who use other devices the wait is basically undeterminable, seeing how ICS hasn’t even reached most smart phones even though the OS came out around a year ago.   As of now there has been news that Jelly Bean will run much smoother and faster than Ice Cream Sandwich, but what kind of perks should users be expecting from Android’s new treat?  Well here are just a couple of things that the new OS will offer.

Visual

  • The home screen is more user-friendly and easier to understand.  Jelly Bean allows applications and widgets already on the screen to move to accommodate space.  Widgets will be adjustable in size and can be removed with a single flick.
  • The notifications will include photos and give the user more detailed information about emails, messages, alerts, etc.  Jelly Bean allows the user to respond almost instantly to notifications.
  • The Jelly Bean camera makes image capturing and handling a lot simpler.  Delete accidental pictures with a single swipe, and view all taken photos with just a pinch.
  • The updated browser will be easier to navigate with smoother zooming, scrolling, and video transitioning.

Performance

  • Jelly Bean will obviously be faster and smoother but it will also save battery!  The new OS will boost the CPU for faster speed and less power usage.
  • The new voice search is based on Google’s Knowledge Graph software that will not just display web searches, but also answer questions much like Siri does for Apple.
  • The new OS has a gesture mode that makes it easier for users with visual disabilities.  This mode will allow users to navigate the device by touching and swiping gestures and speaking for audio output.
  • Familiar with NFC (Near Field Communication)?  Android Beam currently allows users to touch their NFC compatible devices in order to invite each other to multi-player games or send messages.  Now on Jelly Bean, Android Beam will also allow users to send pictures and videos with just a touch of their devices using Bluetooth.

There are many more enhancements that come with the new OS, but you can see that this is already plenty to be excited about.  If you can’t wait for Jelly Bean to be available on your device there is always the option of purchasing one of the few devices that Jelly Bean will be available on!
